Westgate New Church

General Introduction to our church
[For more detail about specific activities click on tabs at the left side of the page.]

Westgate New Church unites United Reformed and Methodist worship and church life. Formed by the union of the congregations of Wentworth Street Methodist Church and Westgate United Reformed Church, we have an alternating ministry of United Reformed and Methodist clergy. We are one congregation worshipping and witnessing to Jesus Christ in the City Centre.

Our minister is shared with Whittlesey Queen Street Church, also a union of United Reformed and Methodist churches, an Anglican congregation in Yaxley that welcomes a Methodist service, Crowland Methodist Church, Oundle Methodist Church, and Livestream, an online church community that is open to all, meets daily for prayer during the week, and hosts a live/recorded service on a Sunday Morning.

We are a member church of Churches Together in Central Peterborough, and share in city centre Chistian activities with Anglican, Baptist and Roman Catholic neighbours, and the Society of Friends.

Our main weekly service for worship is at 10:30 am every Sunday, with the Holy Communion (or Eucharist) celebrated once a month.

We are always pleased to welcome visitors, whether Peterborough people or those passing through on holiday or waiting for train/bus connections.

Other weekly activities have included (pre-covid):

  • A prayer group meeting Tuesday mornings each week. "Pause for Prayer" 10.30 am - 12.00 noon. Everyone was welcome at this prayer meeting - Drop in when you can, leave when you must. Since covid this has not restarted, but you may want to link in with our morning prayers on Mondays to Thursdays, 830am. Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/peterboroughmethodistcircuit
  • Keep an eye-out here for house groups for Bible Study and during Lent.
  • We are keen to develop a BoB (Back of Beyond) group - an open house Christian fellowship group, serving lunch and enhoying a range of activities throughout the day. We are keen to hear from anyone who is interested to support this, or who would value a place of friendship. Please e-mail revlmh@gmail.com if you are interested.

We have adopted this Mission Statement for our church:

We at Westgate are called by God to highlight Jesus Christ's love for the people of Peterborough.  We pass on this good news by worship, fellowship, mission, education, personal life and social service.
